Just take a look @ what the buyer has bid on & won in the past. Seems Like he is rebuilding something that deals with Western Electric parts (maybe an amp ). And he has paid some nice $$$ for those parts also.

15,000 for one horn is beyond amazing. It is funny that Asia is buying up all our classic audio gear, while the US is buying up all the newly manufactured stuff made over there. What does that say about "progress" in audio gear?

Nothing. It means that people with money like to collect rare things regardless of performance.

I bought some yen this summer, and the exchange rate didn't seem too favorable. Everytime I see crazy overseas audio buyers, I think 15000 clams must look different to folks outside the US right now than it does here. still it's a crazy price, that would cover my audio addiction for quite awhile.

I beg to differ. Fisher tube units aren't all that rare and they would put most stuff today to shame. They are also highly desired in Asia.

If you say so. Outside of the exceedingly rare models, Fisher gear doesn't sell for all that much. 400s, 500s, 800s are routinely sold for 300-500.00. Western Electrics, rare altec and JBL, and others sell for thousands to tens of thousands.

My understanding of Western Electric stuff in Asia is that it is often appreciated more as a form of industrial art than for its sound-reproduction qualities. Maybe I'm mistaken.
