6n2 Tube replacement

As I recall, the 6N2 (6N2P) is basically a 6.3 volt only 12AX7. You can use a 12AX7, but the socket will have to rewired to accomodate it. The X7 has three heater pins, 9, 4, 5; with 4 & 5 strapped to accomodate the 6.3 volt feed.

I've never heard of that particular tube, and none of my books have a listing for it. :scratch2:

However, if it is indeed comparable to a 12AX7 in terms of Gm, and Mu, and rated voltages, then the 6922 may not be a good substitute, because its electrical characterestics may not be up to the task at hand. The 6922 has much lower operating voltages than does the 12AX7, and that alone throws up warning flags for me.

12AX7 for this. There is another wire in the middle though I imagine the 6.3 will run as they all have the same pin out. I actually got some nice 6N2Js and they are comparable to some matched up old RCA Black Plates. The RCAs have a lot of use on them, but I noticed no improvement over the 6N2s (Chinese and probably Shaguang like the EL-34s are which arrived in the sockets, so no boxes) I plan on rolling 12AY7s, 5751,etc and I think I will pop for some JJ E34Ls or what ever they are. Open to suggestions on the EL 34s. The Mullards were too tired to stand up to the Shaguangs. Not even close.
The 5Z4s aren't even close to good. Good for burn in and then for testing, but with the SEPs a 5V4G will give you want. 5U4Gs might too, but they power on hard. Tried a Mullard 5AR4 and the old 5V4G sounded better in this amp.

I just bought a no name amp, the brass plate says TUBE, so I think I will get to name it myself.

Great Googly Mooglies! Land Shark.....No!!! I have it! "Bassomatic"

Just doing some research on some Chinese tubes that were new to me. As I have burned this amp the Mullards which tested out at just under 75% ended up sounding best after they got 20 or more hours on them. I have a quad that has been in a caddy for at least 15 years and they needed some time on them. I did buy some of the JJs and they are comparable to the Shaguangs, both of which came matched. Both pairs are nice but not great.
The 92 star 7s that came with as the dual triodes have a u factor close to a good 12AT7 and I put them back in while I burned in the JJ EL34s and after listening to them again with the JJs and the Mullards I felt that the brightness was much like the RCA 12AU7 Clear Tops, or just to bright for me.
I have settled on Telefunken 12AX7s which have higher gain than the 92s but are much more balanced, a Mullard 5AR4 and Mullard EL-34s. All in all this little no name $200 Chinese amp sounds better than good on the Altec 416s and the Heil AMT dipoles with the original diaphragms from the 70s.
Now the computer room is the listening room and my mish mash of gear in the living room is only used for movies.
And now you know what possessed me. Not that I haven't been since around 1970. Tonight I even listened to Black Sabbath Paranoid, which helped twist me back in the day. Tuesday I will be getting into some Pink Floyd over at a buddy's place who has Altec A7s with double horns and compression drivers. Too bad my pain doc gives me a piss test every time I go in. Maybe I need to move to Colorado.

By the way if you are using the search to find out about a tube you are not familiar with, the one that answers your question the best is what you use and if you decide to comment on it hoping for some more feedback, then what you find is what you have.
Thanks so much for the insights and comments. I know I didn't ask for help but I did expect just a bit more from the tube junkies here. Next time I will be specific in asking for comments and tips about the Chinese tubes I don't know anything about.
I did like Ancient Bump Award. It is the 1st one I have received. Truly, has anybody received one before? I think I will pop a brew in honor of the occasion.

If you just need a replacement with the same I have a spare box of Russian Military spec 6n2p that I can help you with if you put your location in and you're in Australia.

6n2p was designed to be a direct replacement of 6SL7GT in 9 pin format. But internally they are very different.

I replaced the Chinese 6N2 tubes in my Nobsound MS-10D hybrid amp with Russian 6N2P-EV tubes for a very noticeable increase in SQ. Likewise I've used them in place of 12AX7 using socket adapters off eBay. There should be adapters let you run 12AX7 instead I should think

Good God! What kind of wine was I drinking? I tend to ramble on forgetting to end a sentence. Most of the time I am just tired, but reading these old posts about the no name SE EL-34 is funny.
I still have it and it is driving a pair of AMTs in a biamp situation. I still am using 12AX7s in it (Telefunkens) and I never rewired the heater. Doesn't seem to bother it.
There are some good Russian ones that were used in the radars of one of the MIG fighter jets. They are rugged as all get out, you could almost play ping pong with them. They actually sound quite nice and I should buy some of them. I will see if I can track some down.

Agreed. The Russian 6N2P-EV tubes are much clearer and detailed than the Chinese OEM 6n2.
