Heh, you might owe him two for that ;). Great speakers...you will love them and if you don't I can help you with them!!!

Nice score!
Rick

Normally sell for 30 to 60 times that.

An absolute steal!

I've got the ADS L1230s (same drivers), and they're great. I'm sure you're gonna love 'em!

Well, you paid about 50% more than I did for mine, but I guess you still did, well, ok. lol

That's an absolute steal. You don't hear a ton of storied of L810s showing up at the thrif stores. Always nice when someone who will appreciate them snags them for a price like that.

The tweeter fuses were bad.Maybe the owner thought they were blown?Sound as good as the KG 4's.Different sound.SRV and John Lee Hooker sound great.

My fuses were bad, too. I told my uncle about it (he gave them to me) and he almost puked because...

1. He just plain thought they sounded dull and lost interest, maybe?
2. They now sound so good he almost (really) wants them back.

LOL

Anybody have any luck finding compatible stands?I've got them on milk crates at the moment.

I have stands with my Braun L810's (pre ADS, made in West Germany) which set them at the correct height and are angled back. They seem to show up on that auction site a few times a year.

Well, I had mine on milk crates for a long time and they're almost ideal. I replaced them with some small stools like people put plants on. Just something about milk crate hight works well. I'm told that getting them angled back a bit helps imaging.

Hi Dennis,

Hey that's at least a five banana score! Here ya go...

:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

I was glad to help out because I figured it would increase my Karma wuffie, and sure enough today I hit a yard sale with Concept components (3.5 receiver and a Concept tape deck) available for next to nothing!

:banana::banana:

It's funny because when you called for ADS info from the Tacoma SA thrift store, I was pulling into the parking lot of the Lynnwood SA thrift. I did a quick search from my mobile browser including hits on the AK site enough to confirm that L810's at $15 were beyond a no-brainer... what $900 MSRP? Congratulations and glad to help anytime. :thmbsp: :music:

Nice grab. I just sold mine for 40x that! The ADS stands are hard to come by but keep checking eBay. Do a search for L810 speaker stands and you will find a thread by me with all the details on them. You will also find specs and brochures from the link in my thread. Great sounding speakers, enjoy. :sigh:

What are the symptoms of a bad fuse? No sound, or just bad sound?

Thanks!
No sound from the tweet dome. You should be able to tell if they are working by putting your ear up to them. The second generation had the fuses so yours don't have them.

The tweeters only are fused.The highs were missing.Quick trip to RS $.50 later and glorious sound.A BIG thanks again Dick.Karma is good.

If yours have fuses they are the II versions and here are the correct stands for them.
That's correct! Your speakers would have predrilled holes for machine screws (NOT wood screws!) if they were designed for the L-shaped stands. There would even be holes at the top and bottom ends of the back piece to allow for sideways mounting (:scratch2:), as can be clearly seen from the L-stand photo I posted earlier.
