Very worthy of service/repair, sounds like a basic cleaning/service of the switches and pots will go a long way toward curing the symptoms you describe. Problems could run a bit deeper, but a thorough cleaning is where i'd start.
It really is an easy thing to do yourself. No real need to send it out. There are several threads here for how to "Deoxit" your controls. I think there is a long detailed one as a sticky in the DIY Section. And that unit is definitely worth the effort!

It is relatively easy and cheap to fix the volume control problem, as one simply cleans it with Deoxit. But the static for over a minute when you turn it on might be something more serious, requiring a repair. I would recommend using Deoxit on all the controls, and then see how it performs. But from what you say, I think it might also have something else wrong with it.

I would think it is something else other than a loose contact for the noise when you first turn it on. If it always is there when you first turn it on, and always goes away after a minute or so, it likely works after it is warmed up, which doesn't sound like it would be a loose contact.
As for whether or not it is worth fixing, it is going to depend upon how much you like it, how much it will cost to fix it (a repair shop should be able to make some sort of guess, but will not likely be a firm price without looking at it), and what else you can get. I would expect it to be a relatively inexpensive repair, so if you really like the unit, it is probably worth fixing.

The static that happens while you move the control is the wiper moving over the dirt, dust, and grime that's inside the potentiometer.
Also, as was the case with my AM-2600, the speaker protection relay contacts may be pitted a bit and might need a light burnishing to get them good again.
Also, the matching tuner is somewhat of a treat if you run across it.

Tomorrow i hope the Deoxit will arrive so i can clean him up hopefully the most problems are solved than
Your Am-2600 looks very nice
The AT-2600 is often at the dutch auctionsites and most of them see them as junk
Just like the Akai Am series
I liked mine before i knew what it's worth
I have now bought a AM-2450 too but has some problems have a made a another thread for it

Deoxit has solved much of the problems but sometimes the right channel is distorted.
Most of the time when i am gaming with my racing wheel.
Could it be a cracked solder point? i have looked at the main pcb but did'nt see anything like it.
