Check ou this sub i just won... Audio Pro ACE B2-70

ASre those woofers loaded isobarically? I played with a similar design for my sons car using multiple 8"s, pretty simple and effective means of loading multiple drivers in small enclosures.

Hi all,

Sweeeet find on the AUDIO PRO! I often recall speaker systems that left a positive sonic IMPRINT on my Brain such as my first listening of Magnepans,
KEF 105's, ESS AMT1B's, SONAB, K-Horns. One of THE most impressive sounds I ever heard was from a pair of KEF 101's with an AUDIO PRO Subwoofer! I heard the Audio Pro and KEF 101's years ago at
PARIS AUDIO in West Los Angeles. Oooh, how badly I wanted to own that
speaker system but, too expensive! I would often visit Paris Audio just to hear that system play! Lucky you!
Enjoy!

Regards,
SixCats!

There are some highly unique concepts used in that sub, senses current through the woofers and uses feedback to electronically alter the driver parameters and lower distortion.

Never heard one ... I want one!

Check CL in ABQ, NM. He keeps dropping the price, wants it gone...

He doesn't want to box and ship it - don't blame him. Forgot to ask the model.

I never did get the exact model # out of him. PM me if you want to pursue, he's an old Motorcycling bud, I might be able to dig up a phone # & get details.

Going to audition 2 of these in a few hours. Going to bring one home if I like them. I think I should, and he will hold the other one for me so I can scrape up the rest for it.

Nice guy!

Got it home.

Any tips Homer J?

Need a copy of the manual as well? And I will get the brochure when I go back for the other one he is holding for me.

I just picked up a walnut B2-50...the little 6.5 driver version...paid 60 bucks with correct cables. So far really likeing it!! Have it paired to my klipsch forte's and the cross overs set at 70hz...and volume at about .3. Let me know what you think of yours!

I've got the B1-45 here, pretty sure it's a down-firing 10". It's been wired for a mono input, but I did check out how to wire it for stereo inputs, just never bothered...now you're all making me want to have at it & fire it up again. Hmmmm....:scratch2:

Do it!

Now that I have it placed and I learned that I had the levels set too high when I went in the other room and found the node... I learned to set it and then go check, because you can't even hear it in some spots. It seems lower settings are better.. this is the real sub bass. So set it to where its not chuffing out the port then go listen.

That isn't the volume so much as the setting to match the speakers. Using a fixed line level out, I set it to about 2v to get clean, undistorted effortless LOW bass.

The way you have it set might be giving too much output.. listen with your mains off. 0.2v means it will be the same output at that input level as 2v input at 2v... so it's easy to overdrive. You might hear the ports chuffing and the woofers move alot more than normal.

(edit: I guess .2 could be ok.. depends on the line level... I changed a few settings elsewhere and .5 became the good zone)

I set the crossover for 70Hz with some 6.5" 2ways that go to around 60 Hz, it meshes nicely there.

It is a reference to the sensitivity of the speakers db/w 1m... but its all Swedish style with the voltage rating to get a certain spl at a certain power level. There are some weird charts and graphs in this manual.

I just found out that I didn't know there is a few extra bass notes at the beginning of this Kanye West song, I think it was "Heartless" Can't hear them on the Kappa 9s. It's just ~4 notes that are lower right before the main bassline starts.. very impressive.

When I get these crossed properly with the Kappas... I don't even know. :D :banana::banana:

It likes to be in between the speakers, as per the manual for when using one sub. When I get the other one, all bets are off. :scratch2:

I've got the pinout if you want a picture of it... you got it all figured though.

I also have a spec sheet or something for the B1, because the original owner was looking at that before he got the B2-70s

What do you think of the B4-200 then:

Be careful with the B2-40, B2-70 and B4-200, these have foam surrounds. B2-50 has rubber surrounds.

I think you are one lucky guy... :thmbsp: I can't wait until I have the dual 70s.

The owner had them refoamed already. He had owned them since new I believe, and they are in pretty good shape for 21 years of use.

I can't wait for the sun to come up so I can test out some pipe organs. :D

Wouldn't hurt to post it here if you've got it, to help any future AKers that search for this brand. I did delve into it a bit last night, if I remember correctly it was 1&4 = input L/R, 2&5 output L/R, all shields/grounds to pin 3. Interesting that mine shows a low-pass freq. adjust for the sub, AND another adjustment for the high-pass out to the main speakers. This is all line-level, by the way.

I took a couple of pics while it was apart, too. I'm still considering pulling the shielded cable off the board and putting RCA jacks on a plate mounted to the metal mesh base instead of mucking around with the DIN.
