Coffee. Anything coffee related.

Finally got the range/stove exhaust hood sorted out. Had to disassemble the fan motor and completely clean it out and re-oil the bearings/bushings.

As well, pulled a big wad of insulation out of the duct that someone had stuffed in there (presumably) because the exhaust flap wasn't closing properly and was allowing cold air to come in.

With that sorted out did a test roast with the roaster set up on the stovetop, under the exhaust hood. MUCH better. Still a little roasting smell but way less than before.

This morning I tried a brewing hack suggested by Alton Brown of Good Eats, it's to add a pinch of salt to the coffee before brewing.

Just an eighth or quarter teaspoon, not enough to taste, really.

The idea is that the salt cuts any bitterness.....

Well my coffee tastes fine, somewhat milder than before.

Has anyone tried this?

I've been doing it for some days now, and it seems to help.

Local coffee, Community, came out with a bold blend. Mrs. grabbed me a bag to try out. WOW! Really great tasting. Will be on my shopping list from now on.

For you espresso fanatics out there, I implore you to try Bristot Buongusto
Best I’ve had.

*Cough*.... anyone like instant coffee?
Occasionally I break out my Nescafe instant whenever I run out of my regular coffee I bottle up in one of those organic glass milk bottles for the road and away from home.
It doesn't taste bad. No mess and yes I have a French press I'm looking at but didn't feel like messing with the grounds, throwing it out, cleaning etc. Just hot water and two scoops and I'm done.
Hopefully you don't abandon this thread because of this post. :D

For me, I wouldn't necessarily say "like" but I normally have some on-hand and occasionally use it to approximate a cup of coffee. ;)

Mormon households had instant Postum as the non-caffeinated alternative. "Strong drink" (alcohol), and stimulants, along with tobacco use were discouraged.

I like coffee when I get up like everybody else.
Just a old boring Coffee drinker here.
Basic black mild ground.
Straight up black, nothing else.
4 cups or so and I'm good to go.

I am amazed at the drive thru Coffee shops in
Town, every block there is one.

Every morning, I make my local 8 ounce drip darkroast coffee bar round! For the coffee, and the yammy barrista chicks

Stopped going to Starbucks as it's now to expensive even for the plain Venti coffee. Home drinker now and I like it much better anyway. On long road trips sure a treat for the family. But not a weekly occurrence at all.
