Finally got the range/stove exhaust hood sorted out. Had to disassemble the fan motor and completely clean it out and re-oil the bearings/bushings.
As well, pulled a big wad of insulation out of the duct that someone had stuffed in there (presumably) because the exhaust flap wasn't closing properly and was allowing cold air to come in.
With that sorted out did a test roast with the roaster set up on the stovetop, under the exhaust hood. MUCH better. Still a little roasting smell but way less than before.
