Craigslist: Portland, OR

Wow, AR 3a's listed tonight at $60. Ad was pulled so fast I almost thought it was a figment of my imagination.

They did need some work.

I am picking them up tomorrow. I have a spare AR 12" woofer that needs a recone. I was contemplating throwing it out when the AR3s popped up with one missing woofer.

You lucky dog. Hope that it's the pots that are keeping the tweets from working.

I was at my GF's and I flipped open my laptop when she took the dog out for a walk. Saw that ad like 5 minutes after it was posted. I wanted to reply so bad, but have been setting limits on myself as to how many projects I can have in the queue. Over dinner, my partner had just told me how much she was impressed with my ability to de-clutter my life and keep it that way. LOL!

I too am in the process of de-cluttering and knew I wouldn't be getting around to these so I put them on CL for a cheap price.
Really glad an fellow AK'r, (and a nice guy to boot) is getting these and can hopefully help them to sing again.

I love restoring speakers from that era. I've done a pair of KLH Model 23, that I delivered to a friend last fall (so I still get to enjoy them when I visit her) and am currently working on a pair of KLH Model 30. Functionally done, but still need to refinish the cabinets. I also did a beautiful pair of early (1967) Rectilinear III Highboys which I sold to a nice couple with a beautiful mid-century modern home.

If you post a restoration thread, or before and after photos, in the Speakers subforum, please post a link here so we can see how they turn out. Best of luck and have fun!

I have refurbished a bunch of speakers over the years, but I am generally too embarrassed by my sloppy soldering to post pictures. But, perhaps this time I will talk myself into it.

Dogwan, I may have hit you up for cabinet advice. I think I still have your phone number somewhere (I am the guy with the IMFs).

I need to de-clutter, but I am always baffled by the process - I am attached to all of it, and hate the idea of something going away.

See you soon.

I have a pair of those in my restoration queue. Very rare indeed and very high end. Probably the best speakers Sansui ever sold in the North American market.

Pissed of JBL and caused them to sever ties with Sansui. Sansui was the JBL distributor in Japan back in the 70s. JBL didn't take too kindly to Sansui offering a very JBL-like high end speaker on their home turf.

You don't see many of these in the wild. If I didn't already have a pair that need my time and attention, I'd be snapping these up.

Thanks again for helping with the IMF's. Armed with the pics I took of the stuffing I was able to get them back up to snuff. I did end up selling them off after I was happy with the restoration. They were great, I just moved on to the next shiny object. LOL

Unfortunately, I am no longer working down south. Still, more than happy to help if I can. If you can't find my number just send me a PM.

OMG, :crazy::rflmao:

Sometimes I want to open another anonymous email acct. just so that I can respond to ads; "you're high on crack!".

Theta DSPro Generation III DAC - High-End - $2000 (BEAVERTON)

Hifishark shows past sales range from $500-1150 in the sold section filtered for the N. America.
And, the review he/she sites are from 1992.

(steps off of soapbox)

I know how you feel.

However, sometimes the old saying is true, you catch more bees with honey than you do with vinegar. I landed a pair of Klipsch Cornwall’s for well under market price after politely telling someone they were wildly misinformed on the value of the speakers and giving them an honest assessment of their worth.
