I want/need a new coffee maker

Bunn BX
Brews a whole pot almost as fast as that damm Kurig can brew 1 cup
Stole the mesh filter outta the Black&decker that took a crap.

Aeropress. My dad has one, and IMO it's pretty good. Is it the end all of coffee makers? No, but it's simple and cheap.

:thmbsp: Much depends on how much a java junkie one is. There's much to be said for french presses and such....but when you need a quick fix in massive quantities...go Bunn for the down and dirty needle.

I use a $12 cheapo Mr. Coffee machine. It boils water and drizzles it over ground up burnt coffee beans as well as any of them.:D:thmbsp:
.....and my Sunbeam was $14....have had it 5-6 years....big black plastic unit....favors Darth Vader....I fill the reservoir with HOT water from the tap and turn the unit on....next, we fire the first boiling water-spurts back into the full reservoir....for like 3-4 minutes....when the spurts are happening about every second and a good amount of steam is everywhere, I swivel the arm to fire into the grounds-cup, and close the top....steam is soon blowing out every slit of the top of the unit, and it's from EXTRA-HOT water like you get from a Bunn commercial unit.....

.....To those who like coffee "strong" and use more coffee grounds....using the hotter-water technique with a drip machine, you may need to watch for the grounds-cup running over....the hot water is being fire-hosed....lift the top for a second and check it, watching out for the hot steam....you may need to lift the top fully open, and stir through the grounds with a teaspoon before the grounds-cup runs over....(that dark brown foam in the grounds-cup breaks down by steam over the entire process, which very much enhances the flavor)....then it's into a 40 oz thermos with a big cup left, already doctored, just below boiling temp....but that's another post.....

.....again, I have used this Sunbeam unit for 5-6 years now, using the hotter-water approach/technique, and the unit still works just fine, every time....good electrics and shielding, I guess?.....

I recommend the Bona Vita for value. Equally as important is a good grinder. The Capresso Infinity is a quiet, conical burr grinder that really kicks ass and is at a very good price point. Those 2 items will make excellent coffee without breaking your bank. But what do I know?

I also recommend purchasing the highest quality coffee you can find. http://messengercoffee.co/collections/coffee

If a bigger budget is available, I'd recommend the Technivorm brewer and the Baratza Vario (steel burr) grinder.

And with some refinements in technique (burn the instructions that came with it) capable of brewing a world-class cup.

Speaking of coffee grinders, size aside, if I could get one of the Bunn commercial grinders (such as G1, G2, or G3) for a decent price do they do a good job?

EDIT: Gonna post this to a new thread.

After 25+ years of using (and replacing) various drip coffeemakers, I decided to go retro, and purchased an NOS 1956 Universal Coffeematic electric percolator. An Art-Deco thing of beauty, looks & works like it just rolled off the assembly line yesterday. Coffee brews up rich, strong, smooth, and HOT....pours at a perfect (for me) 175 degrees, then automatically shifts over to the warm cycle, while maintaining the integrity of the coffee. That happy perking sound, and the great aroma that fills the house adds to the enjoyment of the coffee experience....:thmbsp:
