I'd love to come down to see you fellas- I'm stir crazy without being able to travel much anymore.

I'd just need to figure out a few things with the fella who finally ends up hosting it- to see if I can do it, or if my mobility issues/condition will prevent it.

Paul,

You are one hell of a great guy. If you want to attend something I'm sure you could be accomodated. I'll show up just to help tote you wherever you want to go. You're not too big of a fella are you?

I'm about 5 foot, 6 inches or smaller, after the accident- I'm sure I've shrunk (or been flattened) a bit! And a whopping 130 pounds or less, most of it this god-awful grizzly adams beard I've been growing! You guys probably have amps heavier than me.

And I get around fairly well- my arms and hands work 99% of the time. There's just a few things I can't manage.

Thanks for the offer of help. If the Acella (sp?) train goes there, or another train, I could get to South Station in Boston and make it out to visit you fellas. I'd love to meet more of you- I just couldn't do the AK fest this year- it'd be too much for me to handle.

Paul- I just did a quick search and Amtrak runs from South Station to Union Station. One way was $81. You are welcome to stay at my place anytime. It would probably work well for you since there are no steps and rather open.

I'd make a strong effort, as I'd like to meet you all. I need to be sure health things are in order, but I might be able to do it, and would sure love to meet you all very much.

How long of a ride do you think it is? I've got something like 4 hours or so to New York. I may need to take the Acella, to avoid the pain of a long ride, but I'll decide that when the time comes.

Paul:

New York is more or less 4 hours from DC by train and I assume the Acela is faster. So you are looking at 8-9 hours on the train. A plane would only be an hour in contrast, but would be costlier.

The advantage of the train is that you are not constrained like you would be in a car. And they do serve beer.

Check out Amtrak's site. I believe they have timetables and all the info you need. Hope to meet you.

8+ hours may be a bit much, but I won't rule it out.

Paul if there is a date that works for you let me know. I'll plan a social gathering at my place and we will see what it grows to. You are more then welcome to crash with me. If my place isn't comfortable there are 3 hotels on the circle in front of my building.

We can make Paul an honorary member of the DC area AK club, granting him all the rights and privileges bestowed upon our most munificent members. That, and we will teach him the secret handshake.

There's a secret handshake? :sigh: (skulks off)

Interesting thread.......regional huh? From the shore here! EASTERN SHORE, you know the other state of MD :scratch2: :D

I talked to Rob today and Glenn (Yamaha B-2) and it looks like having a mid Atlantic fest at Robs place will work very well. It sounded like Florence and Rob were up for the challenge. Nadia, Glenn and I are ready to help in any way we can.

Rob, should we start planning?

Sounds like a fun time. I'm very local and can bring gear, food and help with the costs.

I'm just outside of Frederick, and would be glad to help out if the timing is right. Just let me know how I can help!
GREAT IDEA!!
Regards,
Jim

Handshake?

About the handshake though :scratch2:

Were you able to pick up WBJC at 91.5? Their signal is not quite as strong as WETA, but when I was still in consulting and driving back and forth to Ft. Monmouth I used to keep their signal until I got into range of the classical station in Philadelphia.
