My first Goodwill find

A lot of people here talk about stuff they have found at Goodwill. I was driving by one and decided to stop in. There wasn't much to speak of, but I did notice some small spks with real wood cabinets. I looked closer and they were Minimus-1s for $7.99. I know the Minimus line has a bit of a following, and figured the original Minimus might be neat to have, they also remind me of the Optimus 1-Bs I had as my first stereo spks 33 years ago. I brought them home and hooked them up. I wasn't expecting them to sound very good, and really they don't. Not horrible, but nothing to right home about. A bit of a hollow, nasally sound with no bass and ok highs. But still kind of neat to have. Is there anything special about these spks other than being "the original"?

Thanks,
Brad

kinda cool lookin little buggers, by this time they might like a recap, though that wont help the bass any..never heard a pair of those, had 7s long ago, and now have another pair. If you havent already looked them up in the vintage realistic online catalog place, be cool to do. Sounds like they may carry their own with a sub, other option may be to source some better woogers...maybe check also into how much damping is or isnt in that cab, what you describe almost makes me think damping issues though otoh..been wrong before (doesnt hurt to check though).

I generally run my systems with the bass/treble set flat (my main sys has no bass/treble or eq adjustment at all) When I hit the loudness, these do sound a lot better. As a matter of principle it bugs me to need to do that, but I guess on spks like this, whatever it takes to make them sound good. They are rated for a max of 25 watts, so there isn't a lot I can do with them. Maybe someone is familiar with them and knows a few tricks.

Looking at the last picture, it looks like there are 3 screw terminals and an RCA jack. What is the 3rd terminal for?

If you bridge the center terminal to the right (-) terminal, with included bridge, it increases the treble output, I haven't tried it yet.

Cool-looking speaks. Hang onto them and give 'em some time - You may need to match them with a receiver or amp from the same era in order to get some synergy.

Minimus-1..... Mystery.....

Howdy, brad1138....gee, here we go again...these should be well known, well documented, but ...NO......

Basically, you have found something that is apparently not so common... these may not be GREAT speakers, but... I promise...they are worth the price of admission.......the physical condition looks to be very good...and they cost you the price of a burger combo...........

Look at these responses( gang-twanger, metal 420, nolan,everyone..)....these ain't the big-buck deal, but they are in good shape, and can be very useful tools for an apprentice speaker-hunter.....OK...I say ...good score....enjoy, learn....trust me, if you stick with it, you will find something awesome for the same price.......then,............you are in serious trouble.........willhowl:D

I have tried it now, it made a nice difference. They sound much better this way, the hollowness I talked about is gone, highs improved a bit, seams to be tighter all the way around. Still no bass but now a fairly good sounding little speaker. :)

I think they made them to match up with their small components like the SA-150 intergrated amp and the TM-150 tuner ( I still use them in my Work Office) I use to have a set of them and I think i bought them together with the small components. your not going to blow the roof off but for background noise they will do a fine job
