Realistic Receivers

What is the consensus on the STA-95 Receiver. I bought it brand new in 79 and have never had a problem with it. It powers four Optimus speakers the 110's and the 25's. The system sounds great and seems to have plenty of power. It can still rattle the windows and drive the old lady into her room!!

Usually they fly under the radar.I like them. The tunning knob seems a little cheap by the feel of it but otherwise a fine receiver. The caps are usually needing replaced as they are a off brand and leak green, blue electrolyte out the bottom.

There was a lot of great "store brand" gear out there in the late 70's and early 80's... a lot of it rebranded from known manufacturers... increased their market. I have a 1979 NEC integrated with dual power transformers that was rebranded as a JCP MCS series...

I have a few Realistic receivers, an STA-2000D is on the bench needing some TLC. Great products!:thmbsp:

Yup. I snagged a nice little Sears component system at the flea-market for $5. It was a rebranded Sanyo system. The next week, another guy had the exact same system, with the Sanyo name, for $75. ;)

I had the STA 950 back in the early/mid 80's which is similar. Very nice receiver. I own now the STA 52B, STA 2000 and STA 2100. Never found a Realistic receiver that I did not like. I had a lot of receivers that came and went, but I'll always keep my Realistic's.

I have an STA- 90 that is just great ....looks like an XX1 series Sansui, well worth the $20 that is cost me !....also had an STA-52 that sounded good ....

I have a few Realistic receivers...

STA-2100
STA-2080
STA-2000
STA-2290
STA-90
STA-52B

All restored and awesome! I once took two STA-95's and created one beautiful unit. I ended up selling it, but I wish I still had it in my collection. It's really an underated receiver...

I had an STA-960 which while looking identical to the STA-95 was a year newer and about 5 more watts per channel. I liked the sound OK, but really liked the looks. I think that is the best looking receiver I've ever owned and close to the best looking I've ever seen.

I concur. I've been tempted to pick one up (either model because, as you say, they're virtually identical) from time to time, just because of the aesthetics.

I have heard that there are two models of the STA 95. One with a grey faceplate and one with a silver. One is suppose to be a little thicker as well but otherwise same everything else. I do not know if this is accurate though.Just what i was told by the guy i bought mine from.

See my sig.....I love Rat Shack stuff....a 2000D took my STA 95 out of rotation...my STA 78 is always on in the mancave.

I purchased a STA-2100 from a fellow AK'er, RS Steve...... one of the best things I have ever spent money on in this hobby! Hooked up to a set of Mach 1's and a pair of Sansui SP-3500's, that bad boy rocks the house off the foundation! :music::thmbsp: I love my RS Gear! Now I have to get back down to Fla to buy that set of Optimus T-200's!......and maybe find a LAB-400 too....:D
