Sony PS-X70 Help

Hi all,

A while back i grabbed a Sony PS-X70 that needed a ton of work. The speeds were way off and wobbled, it make the infamous "creaking" sounds on both 33 and 45 and the auto functions were wonky.

Well a full recap of the power supply and some adjustments to the hall effect sensor fixed the first few problems.

Now the only thing not working 100% is the arms auto start function. The tonearm lifts just as it should but when it stops its motion and lowers its always shy of the album by maybe 1/4 of an inch. i all ready adjusted the little screw under the plinth and its turned fully clockwise (so at what should be its inner most).

The arm is free of old gummed up lube, the motion is very smooth (both vertically and horizontally). I'd appreciate any help you could offer.

Thanks in advance!

I assume you followed the procedure in the service manual? Did you turn the screw counterclockwise as in the manual? That is a very good TT, I had one myself.

the service manual actually has it reversed, but yes i did try adjusting it in both directions.

That procedure solved the problem with my PS-X75.
That was over two years ago and all has been well since.

Yes if I manually set the arm over the start on the record the cueing works just fine. In fact the auto cueing works in full auto mode as well. its just that the arm stops and lowers 1/4 or so before reaching the album.

That's what my PS-X75 used to do.

Success! There was a GD cartridge mounting screw caught in one of the arm mechanisms. :)

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

Isn't it nice when the fix becomes that simple.
The funny thing is that you could have spent untold number of hours chasing the problem.

Congratulations!:thmbsp:
