Well from what I read he brought them up on a variac first but it seems that I read somewhere that it was a bad idea to have tube amps powered up without speakers due to possibly damaging the amps but I could be mistaken also :yes:How about after being in storage for 10+ years?

I'm pretty sure it depends on the specific topology of the amp in question, i "know" it is unhealthy for many tube amps, but there are also some that tolerate it without a hitch.
My advice parallels your suspicion, err on the side of caution when in doubt.
An aside, those Silver Sevens sport a nice lifetime supply of KT88's for many of our other beloved tube amps.

Yes that would make sense :yes: One would have to assume that since he had Bob helping him with this that it must be ok to do so but it sure would suck to damage a set of these.

Agreed, the transformers look very unique and re-winding would probably be the only remedy for a damaged one. Heck, it would suck just to retube one of those. I'm not sure what these might use for a biasing scheme, but i'd guess it could get quite expensive if you had to buy KT88's "matched" in sets of a dozen or fifteen.

I've been on eBay since 1996 & I've had a couple of @$$holes leave stupid feedback similar to that. It's a fact of doing business. One dipstick I tried REPEATEDLY to contact via email, eBay & phone never contacted me then left a similar feedback.
Sorry, but at that kind of price, I'm checking out all feedback. To automatically side with either of the parties involved is not prudent in my opinion!

You can bring them up using a resistor to the specific value in place of a speaker. That's what we always did with vintage tube amps.
Yeah. Totally agree that eBay buyers can be as bad as sellers and that feedback good & bad should be scrutinized. Both of these neg leavers have a decent amount of transactions and no history of leaving excessive negs though.
