Voltage record is probably the best store in town. But still, some of their records are overpriced.
I know Boone has several stores around ASU with record stores.
All the stores in Boone are small and don't get much new stuff in. I've already combed through the 2 stores we have in Boone. Of course there's several thrift stores around, but that's always hit or miss. Very rarely have I found something that's actually worth my time in the small thrift stores around here.
All that being said, I did pick up a nice new record this afternoon at Fat Cats Music in Boone, but I probably have more records at my house than they do in the store...I never find any good used deals on things I don't already have here in Boone.
Email Seth at Sound Stage Direct or give him a call. The discount code has changed for 2009. He does not want the code advertised on the web because non AK members had been using it in the past.
What about Newbury Comics? I'll let you guess the website address since I'm not sure about the rules for posting non-sponsor websites. They seem to have a ton of stuff. Though I admit my vinyl collection is sparse.
Yeah. I'm finding that SoundStageDirect has a ton of great stuff, but at $30 an album, it's a bit intense to try to rapidly expand my music collection. That early Genesis 200gram Box Set looks incredible though... If only I had $250!
What about that record store Volt/Voltage (something along those lines). I've gotten some decent deals and found some really good stuff in there. I live in Boone so when I go to a place like Asheville or Greensboro, it's a treat to see a big store like that.
There is a store in Greensboro called Remember When. They have the most high-quality used records I've ever seen in one place. The prices are high, but the quality of product is top-notch. All the vinyl is categorized by genre, then by artist, and or alphabetically for the more obscure stuff. Highly recommended. Just make sure you go over there with a good wad of cash ready to spend.
Last time I was there, I was talking to the owner and he said they have at least two more storage trailers full of vinyl that they haven't even categorized. It's an older fellow and his wife that run the store. He said they bought out a lot of record stores in the 90's and continued to stock-pile from that method. Definitely worth checking out if you have the time to drive to Greensboro one day.
Cheers
Do they have a website? :scratch2:
