What are your opinions on the Technics x00 receivers? (ie SA 500, SA 700, etc.) They are the silver faced units from the late 70s. How are they compared to the other series before and after?

I love them the most and think they look better than any other receiver because of the large same size dial knob and volume knob.

I love their sound and their power.

There are a lot of receivers that I do like from Sansui and Pioneer but the Technics receivers from 1978 are my number one favorites!
I have two sa 600.. . One that I screwed up with the golden screwdriver 1 in perfect condition.
And I have the sa 800 which is my absolute favorite.

My older brother came home with the SA 500 One Summer afternoon in 1978 with a set of ohm h and this is where & when my love began.

And you being from Brooklyn New York need to find yourself a set of made in Brooklyn New York ohm Acoustics speakers from 1978 or 9..
I suggest that ohm models, L, H, C2, and ( i )
And if by some miracle you can find a set of model B2 , those are all beautiful box speakers with beautiful cabinets.
My number one favorite are the ( i )
And the B2

I have a SA-5460 and SA-5470 , I think they both sound wonderful.
I have seen a lot of guys on here say the SA-600 , 700 and 800
sound great as well.
If I ever come across some of the older ones I hope to acquire a couple...
5560 or 5570 or 5760 or 5770 are ones that I really really would love to acquire but I wouldn't pass up any of the other lower models if given the right opportunity..
The 5470 + 5460 at 65 watts per Channel are also highly desirable and should sound every bit as good as the sa 600 I have to assume

I don't know where you're at in Michigan but someday maybe I could hear your 5470 on your favorite speakers, I'm in the thumb near Marlette

Wow, that’s a great setup! Such a big size difference between the two receivers..I recently got some custom bulbs for my SA 300 since those burned out.

I’ve been trying to hunt a pair down . The B2’s are pretty nice looking.

Update on the SA 300.....

Accidentally dropped the unit down a flight of stairs about 10 minutes ago. Should’ve dried my hands better as they were still very wet...

So the unit has a lot of cosmetic damage since it landed on a concrete platform. Internals are ok so I’m happy about that. Gonna find a faceplate and hopefully a new cabinet. I guess I’ll hold off on those lamp replacements for a while :dunno:

You can make the wood cabinet and make a project of it..
Faceplates come off really easily...
And every once in awhile you'll see the Technics sa 300 for sale if you don't find one for parts.

I'm sorry for you that you had to experience such a tragic mistake..
You won't make that mistake again.
Check the internals and make sure there's no other damage you didn't see initially look with a the bright flashlight and a magnifying glass if you have to

Checked out the internals... actually seems to be alright. I made sure everything was where it should be. I have yet to plug it in..will update later.

I have a Realistic STA-740 which I know was built by Technics. From the little bit of info I could find on it I think it's either a SA-300 or SA-303. Really nice sounding receiver and looks good to boot.

The SA--00 sounded good with some nice features but weren't they the receivers that had the particle board bottom? Not good:eek:

Nice, that one’s built around the SA 303. The x0x models have a smaller volume knob than the x00 (fyi)
