What is YOUR pet peeve? Let's have a laugh.

Knocking what you don't understand IS, however, a major issue on the internet.
Spoken like a true back-in parker! Thanks!

In my experience the vast majority people who do it are anything but precise, or accurate. And they take their bloody time doing it. And no, the vast majority can't back into "normal" spaces properly, forget about tight spaces. When you pull into that tight space, you pull too close to the car on your passenger side, making it difficult or impossible for that car's driver to get back into his car. But it's OK because you were easily able to get out of your car (or $80k pickup).

If backing in is so much better, why does it always take multiple attempts? I pull straight in and back out in one motion, nearly every time. I have never seen anyone back into a "normal" space or pull out of one in one turn of the wheel. Forget tight spaces.

I still think it's a social media thing. Most people (the exception being urban cowboys in $80 pickups- I think they like to see the front of their "beautiful" trucks when they go back to the parking space to leave) were fine pulling into parking spaces front-first until maybe 7 or 8 years ago. Then suddenly, many more people started backing in. They got the dumb idea somewhere, and, as the most abundant well of dumb ideas, social media is probably the source.

Watching people parallel park who absolutely cannot do it. If I have to take someone into Boston for an appointment, I usually drop them off and drive around until they are done. Most parking at a meter in the city is parallel parking, I can't believe how many people just cannot do it.

Quoted only to illustrate that responses like that are one of MY pet peeves. I gave logical reasons in support of my position on backing in to parking spots, only to be met with the assertion that it's a "dumb" thing that only "urban cowboys"do because of social media. Yay. And folks wonder why I stopped participating in the cesspool that is online humanity.

And I gave plenty of supporting evidence from my own experience. I read the article you linked and found most of the arguments specious, at best. Example, the author talks about how fast you can get out of the parking spot, not tying up traffic, but ignores the tying up traffic while getting into the spot.

I think I successfully parallel parked once in my life when I somehow passed my drivers license test at 16. Talk about handling it under pressure. Now I don't think I could parallel park to save my life or my bitcoin savings.

I watched a full size pick up truck quickly parallel park perfectly in one motion, the tires were probably less than four inches from the curb and a little person got out and walked away. One of the best park jobs I ever saw in a fairly tight spot.

Watching semi-truck drivers back into the narrowest alleyways without damaging the buildings is amazing. Practice does make perfect.

The fact that even automotive writers are talking about bigger screens in cars like that is something to be excited about:

Big screens with little tiny icons you have to hit while driving:

I wish they'd call out automakers on cutting costs at the expense of safety by removing physical controls for items where they make the most sense.

Another thing that auto reviewers do is they complain if a car does not have a turbo or hybrid engine ! For example I hear them say the Subaru Forester is underpowered ! My wife’s 2024 has 183 hp and easily cruise 80 mph ! The truth is for most people it’s plenty ! My wife doesn’t want or need a turbo or hybrid , most of her trips to the store she’s lucky if she breaks 50 mph ! I make sure I give it a good highway run every so often ! I’m happy with the simpler drive train with lower prices to own and maintaine !

The classic 'underpowered' or 'slow' claim about cars that 20-30 years ago would have been considered quick.

When I'm stuck behind a vehicle that pulls away from every stoplight very slowly, even causing some cars not to make it through on the green, about 75% of the time it is a high horsepower car that all the car magazines would rave about its performance.

My car is one they said wasn't fast enough and if I'm at the front of the line at the light change, even without revving over 3,500 rpm between shifts, I'll leave everyone far behind.

There will usually be a comment below the review where someone says 0-60 in 9 seconds is 'dangerous'. If they can't function safely on the road in a car that does that, then they shouldn't be on the road.

Is parallel parking not a required skill proof test to the state`s initial DL test anymore ?

It was, and suspect still is in FL. when I went to get mine in 1972, using my friends full size Chevy van after the road test.
I had to wait until I turned 18, as my ultra conservative father refused to sign off when I turned 16 because of my shoulder + length of hair that he didn`t approve of.
