Spoken like a true back-in parker! Thanks!Knocking what you don't understand IS, however, a major issue on the internet.
In my experience the vast majority people who do it are anything but precise, or accurate. And they take their bloody time doing it. And no, the vast majority can't back into "normal" spaces properly, forget about tight spaces. When you pull into that tight space, you pull too close to the car on your passenger side, making it difficult or impossible for that car's driver to get back into his car. But it's OK because you were easily able to get out of your car (or $80k pickup).
If backing in is so much better, why does it always take multiple attempts? I pull straight in and back out in one motion, nearly every time. I have never seen anyone back into a "normal" space or pull out of one in one turn of the wheel. Forget tight spaces.
I still think it's a social media thing. Most people (the exception being urban cowboys in $80 pickups- I think they like to see the front of their "beautiful" trucks when they go back to the parking space to leave) were fine pulling into parking spaces front-first until maybe 7 or 8 years ago. Then suddenly, many more people started backing in. They got the dumb idea somewhere, and, as the most abundant well of dumb ideas, social media is probably the source.
