Who Do You Think Has/had The Strongest Voice In Rock?

If Bjork is a secret member here and is reading this I bet she is writhing in anger at being so callously disregarded for 6 pages so I'll nominate....you guessed it.
Bjork.

Army of Me rocks much harder than much of the music quoted here. I'm a huge fan.

Oh, come on. There was lots more to hate about GNR than the annoying nasal screeching of that weirdo. Like everything.

Seriously? Have you not experienced the rock and roll greatness of "Appetite For Destruction"?:scratch2:

That album reminded all the posers what rock and roll was supposed to be, back when I was a snotnose freshman in high school.

Hate Axl all ya want, but that album is solid.

Most powerful Rock and Roll singing moments? Robert Plant and his scream at the end of "Since I Been Loving You". Roger Daltry on "Won't Get Fooled Again".

Peter Steele from Type O Negative had a distinctly STRONG voice.

But strongest??

Tim "Ripper" Owen and Sebastian Bach, in his prime.

But my #1 is Freddy Mercury.

He's already been mentioned, more than once..:smoke:

oh...went thru 8 of the nine pages of this thread, and hadn't seen him..sorry.

one of my FAVORITE rock voices is Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead. Saw him live, and strangely, he hit every note just perfect. I know he sounds different, but he ain't tone deaf, like so many other singers I like that I heard live (Chris Cornell, I'm talking to you.)

Rob Halford is the best ever IMO. There are a couple others mentioned with equal talent so it comes down to personal taste at that point

Couple recent additions to the spin list here ...

The Civil Wars - both Joy Williams and John Paul White have amazing power and control, and bonus, do it well together. There's points where it's really hard to tell which is which ...

Sia (Furler) ... that girl has an amazing set of pipes on her. Just got done spinning Some People Have Real Problems which is a nice assortment highlighting her talent. Most of her stuff is small studio, club, and one take.

Oh, And of course, no list of power singers would be complete without the Diva Plavalaguna (AKA Inva Mula) <G>

In that some of her albums border on rock (though her best ones were more country), I'll nominate kd lang. She probably has the best/strongest pipes of anyone I've ever seen.

I really dislike most of her albums, but her duet album with Tony does prove she has a fine voice, given decent material to sing.

I love this group. The only appropriate word I can think of to describe their vocals is haunting. Really powerful stuff.

If you haven't already done so, download their free live performance at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, Georgia ... outstanding.

"Haunting" describes the wailing of the train's horn perfectly in "My Father's Father" ... the harmonics are well outside the norm for a vocal performance.

Greg X. Volz of Petra, 1979-1985

But I think Freddie Mercury had probably the best overall voice in Rock.

FWIW, Head East's lead singer was John Schlitt, who followed Volz as Petra's lead singer.
