Properly valued MC225?

For around $800 - $1000 you should be able to get a really nice MC225. Although every now and then one will bring twice that on Ebay. I generally avoid any rough Mcintosh equipment.

I remember when the MC225 was the Mac amp that you settled for until you found an MC240 or MC275.

Not quite as nasty MC-275 on the 'bay rite now. Says the power tf is busted so figure $350 - $450 to get it re-wound. For sure, check with Terry first. Just search for Mcintosh 275.

With a lot or work some of that orange and black will come off but it ain't going to look like a new one.

Hey Carl, ya, that was too funny.. If someone is selling a 225 for $400 and I am the first one to response, I would think my reply would be.. I am comiing over right now with cash and take you out to lunch for giving me a great deal...

As with rusted Mc... Unless you can re-chrome the chassis cheap or don't care how it looks or have lots of time to kill, forget those and buy something that looks good. By the time you are done with re-chrome, most likely will end up spending a lot more money and effort than it is worth. Beside, I think the die-hard collector will not touch anything that is not orginal. Has anyone try to re-rivet those tube sockets?

MA230 split using Monitor and Tape Output jacks for pre out and amp in, wiper of volume control to Monitor and wire to wiper (and filters) to Tape Output, use a jumper if you want original preamp. May want to add a .47 uF in line with the Amp In to keep the grid of V7 at 0 volts.

I just don't see how stuff can be so mal-treated that it is allowed to deteriorate like this. I have Mc stuff ranging from an MA6100 through an MX134 and MVP861 and several other Mc pieces that range in age from less than 1 year to over 20 and none of them have a blemish. What do you do? Leave them out in the rain?

Chrome plating plus dirt, dust and humidity, eventually equals rust. This is one reason we went to polished stainless steel. EPA clamp down on chrome plating is the other.
