Princeton Record Exchange is Princeton is very much worth a visit. Do a search on AK for my trip report from a couple of months back and decide whether or not it would be worth the detour. Besides the record store, Princeton itself is a very nice town and worth a visit.

Off topic - if you take I-95 home as opposed to the Cape May Ferry, a stop a State Line Liquors in Elkton, MD is highly recommended for a great beer/wine selection. A microbrew fan's dream.

Princeton's about 100 miles north of OCNJ so it would be a hike, probably best considered as a side trip rather than a stop on the way to or from OC. It is, or at least was when I was living in NJ, a terrific store.

Also, if you don't take the ferry, your route to and from OC will take you near Philadelphia. There must be good stores there and/or on the Jersey side of the river. Maybe Hakaplan or one of the folks in that area can help.

Unless you take the coast route you'll be going around Baltimore and Washington. There's gotta be stores there. I remember a small local chain in Baltimore, Record & Tape Trader, that dealt in used vinyl & CDs when I lived there. They still exist but I don't recall enough to offer a recommendation.

All I've ever hit in South Jersey were Goodwills. Their lps were $2 while only $1 back in PA, so I only really took advantage during sales. I'm sure you can find the list of stores online. Mr. Lin and Scootchu are from S. Jersey--they might have suggestions.

PRX would be about 50 miles each way from where's he hits Philly on the way up from OCNJ. Perhaps worthy of a LP binge/lunch stop (about an hour each way detour) on the way to/from OCNJ.

As for the DC area, Joe's Record Paradise in Rockville, MD is worthy of a visit (also a detour off the I-95 route), but I found the pricing and the condition of the records I was looking for generally better at PRX.

It seems unfortunate that decent record stores often require a bit of a detour. I think both of the above stores offer a reasonable chance of finding something worthwhile, however.

I'll be taking ferry in both directions, bay bridge tunnel $12 each way, Cape May Ferry about $70 each way. Only side trip will be Atlantic City, I'll hit every GW and SA in sight. Since Hakaplan has been down there I assume all the Lawrence Welk albums will be gone :D

I'm actually in central NJ, about 30 minutes north of Trenton. I'm also about 45 minutes from Princeton, so you can guess where I go.

I haven't been to Philly in years, but last time I went there was more than a few good record stores. If I were in South Jersey that's one option I'd consider.

Sing Along With Mitch was quiet popular in this area seeing the abundance at GW and SA. There also seems to be an bevy of Streisand and John Denver fans.

Nothing along your route through the Balt-DC area with the exception of CD Depot is College Park (slight diversion off I-95 on the cap Beltway, exit at Rt.1, only about 10 min each way from 95N). Despite the name, they started buying vinyl over the past year and are over-run with it. They have some good stuff, but I think there's some cherry picking going on there are the primo stuff (mainly jazz) never seems to make it to the floor. Plenty of good rock though.

you guys are a great influence on me, First I'm going to buy a $540 RCM and then next I'm going to leave my family vacation to buy records in Princeton.

Since you're taking the Cape May-Lewes Ferry you'll be near Rehoboth Beach, DE. There's a Record & Tape Traders store there. Never been there but it might be worth a detour. Rehoboth Beach is kinda nice.

I think I have the answer for you. In Ocean City on Asbury Avenue between 10th and 11th streets on the left side if you are coming off the 9th St Bridge is a record store called "Grassroots Music". They sell vinyl and musical instruments. The vinyl selection is new and used. Used prices are generally around $5.50. Chris the owner is a super guy and very helpful. The store is open until I believe 6pm every day all year round.

It is not as good as the Princeton Record Exchange, but then again you will not have to leave OC.

Hope this helps.

Also, parking is on the street so make sure you have some quarters. One quarter will get you one hour.

Thanks Hershiser. Great little store picked up about 7 albums, some real keepers. will post titles and picks after vacation.

On to the GWs and SL in gthe area.

That is awesome. Thanks for the update.

I actually just missed you in there on Sunday. I was in there picking up cash from a guitar that I had on consignment for them to sell for me (50th anniversary deluxe strat). I told them to be on the lookup for you based on my audiokarma recommendation. I had just missed you by fifteen minutes.

Unfortunately, I did not pick up any vinyl though (only by sheer will-power). Seems like you did well though.

There may be a few places on the boardwalk that dapple in vinyl as well, though as not as dedicated to the cause as Grassroots.

Happy hunting....

BTW, it was brutally hot in OC yesterday!

Stopped by tues for another dip in the vinyl pool. Picked up some great titles. They told me you were in. I spent way to much but hey I'm on vacation.

Internet sucks. You would think at $3000+ per week they would toss in access. at micky d's $2.95 for 2 hours.

Here's a couple vacation finds:

Wes Montgomery-Down Here on the Ground, A Day in the Life
Pink Floyd-Meddle
Harvey Mandel-Cristo Redentor
Taj Mahal-The Natch'l Blues
Herbie Hancock-Maiden Voyage, new
Dave Brubeck-Adventures in Time
Robert Cray-Strong Persuader
James Montgomery-First Time Out

once again Hershiser, thanks for the help

I know you were on vacation, but I am sure you were itching to get back to give these a listen, unless that $3,000 rental had an analog setup, which I highly doubt since it did not have internet access :)

Is that Maiden Voyage one of the new reissues which also includes a CD? Curious to hear your feedback on that one.
