What vintage gear are you playing?

That's an interesting combo in the garage. I also have a 730 and a 430.

What MC 1000s do you have in the garage? The Realistic bookshelves? Or is the Abbreviation M.C. something else? I have a pair of the realistic which have OK mids, slightly accentuated highs and very little bass. I'm wondering if the HK which has a lot of Bass oooomph might pump their low end up a bit if that's what you are running?

The garage speakers are realistic mc1000 I bought them new right out of high school .

Right now, Sherwood AP-7020 preamp, Sherwood AM-7040 amplifier (both around 1990), JVC QL-Y66F turntable (around 1985), Magnavox CDB-650 (late 1980's), Cizek MOdel One speakers (around 1976).

All amazing pieces in their own right, and together, nothing short of amazing.

Cheers

Yamaha CR 1000 with JBL L50, CR 1020 on Boston acoustics towers. Both have run of the mill Sony CD players, the 1000 also has a Yamaha YP-B2 for vinyl.
Yamaha r-700 in the office with paradigm 5se. Waiting for caps to get my epi 150s going.
Looking for Polk monitors...

i think the Sonus is the newest part, and as far as I'm aware its 1980s vintage.

My office vintage stack. You'll notice 2 things that if you've seen my other gear will look suspecious. There is no reciever, and the Denon turntable replaced my Yamaha PX-3. The Denon DP-62L was previously used in my 2 channel Mac system downstairs, but since I added my touchscreen music player I had no need (or room) for this turntable, and so I got moved up here. Also, there is no reciever in the pic. I previously had a beautiful Sansui G-6700, but that one went to a new home. Now I have this gear connected to my Krell Showcase system (which is also in another thread) through the AUX in/out loop. This way I get the best of both world's: modern Krell with vintage Pioneer at the push of a button.

OMG, that is a beautiful setup.... Incredible-looking (Nothing looks cooler than mixing some reel-to-reel into your stereo setup). I bet it sounds even better.

Me? Same as it's been for a little while now (although approached a bit differently, especially on the digital/computer-end). Playing the digital stuff at the moment:

1. WD external drives (two 1TB My Books and one 2TB Elements)
>
2. Compaq Presario Laptop running VLC media-player in tandem with the Virtual Audio Cable plug-in (to bypass the Windows K-mixer and ensure a clean, unprocessed 24/96 bitstream is going out to my DAC)
>
3. HRT Music Streamer II DAC (with an AUVIO rca cable connecting it to my receiver's aux-inputs - I love the AUVIO stuff... Great, well-constructed cables for the money)
>
4. Sansui 2000x receiver
>
5. Wharfedale W60E 3-way speakers (raised 18" off the floor)

Right now I'm checking out a couple HDTracks 24/96 releases... "A Love Supreme" and "Getz/Gilberto". I was actually surprised at how much I like their version of ALS. Sure, I don't imagine that Coltrane's sax has that same sort of sound that it does on the original Impulse vinyl (I have another version for that), however, I actually like this version quite a bit. It's smoother and much-less-digital-sounding than the other HDTracks releases I've heard. It's got especially-good detail in the drums, bass, and piano (and voices... even if they're only singing for a few seconds). And since Coltrane's sax is so-far-forward on this album, you really-need good detail on the supporting instruments... ESPECIALLY the drums, and the drums sound great on this. I also just got another CD version of this album that I need to try. It's an old MCA/Impulse disc from the mid '80's, so we'll see how that turns out. But right now, I think I'm gonna' check out the HDTracks "Getz/Gilberto" and see how it fares against the umpteen other versions I have (I haven't really given this one it's full day in court yet... It's not as bad as I originally-thought, though not perfect either, which is why it really-pays to have several different digital versions of this album because none of them are perfect). It's been snowing all-morning/afternoon, so good day for listening (I have to go out and pick up some milk in a little while though, and I'm not looking forward to it).

*Edit* - Listening to an especially-sweet 24/96 reel-to-reel transfer of "Led Zeppelin IV" right now... Best-sounding digital version I have (and I have A LOT).
